I believe this site should be a source of support and education. That said, I think this shot is very good, with tons of potential to be great. If you have access to Photoshop I would suggest darkening that blah background that's in shadow, that sidewalk and walls, y'know? But not a solid black, though -- that would look too artificial. And then sharpening the photo just a tad, but only a tad. Too many folks go overboard with the sharpen tool. Even though the cat is backlit, which is normally a killer for photos, there is so much detail and contrast in his face that it defeats the backlighting quite handily. These adjustments would then give the appearance of the cat coming up over a rise of lush green out of the darkness. I think it would look very cool and, in fact, with your kind permission, I'd like to pull off a copy and try it myself on my Mac.
