Beginning Apophysis 3d Tutorial

Thought I would make a beginner's tutorial to get people started. This is my first one.

Note: You do not have to use the same render settings. However, I do recommend using as high a quality as you can when you render it. You do not want to lock up your machine, so this will vary. I think most people use 4000 or so.

Hope this is of use to someone.

Nicely done. I hope it encourages others to play with Apophysis. Like you said patience is the key, which isn't really hard since it's so much fun to tinker with. Sometimes I go through hundreds of random flames before I find one I want to work with - but that's the fun. Good job Emily.

Thanks Emily! I'll give it a go again. I made one that I incorporated in a card that did okay last year, but I was certainly flying blind. Maybe this time around I'll see the "Light". I always appreciate it when people take the time to try to pass along knowledge here.

Heehee, I just got this in the vb, Emily. LOL. Anyone who takes the time to help someone enjoy Apophysis deserves a 10 in there. I'll give you an 11 :) -mike

Thanks for the tutorial Emily. Although I work on a Mac and couldn't use Apophysis up to now, I really appreciated the artistry of your unique fractals. With the upgrade to OS 10.5 though, now I can boot Windows on the same machine. So maybe I'll head down to the local MicroCenter and pick up a copy of XP - then I'll try to follow in your footsteps.

Thanks! I do have a Mac as well (Macbook), but I save Windows for my Dell. I have Fractal Explorer, I think it is called, on the Macbook. I like Apophysis better though. But just so you know, there are fractal programs available for Macs.

G'day Emily,
Thanks for the tutorial.
I only use the 2.02 version of Apophysis at this point, laptop limitations and a deliberate slow learning curve, but I plan to move on up the ladder in the next month or two so this tutorial was encouraging and helpful. Thanks for taking the time.
Peace,
Mikel.

No problem Mythmaker. Just as long as you realize that the script I mentioned in the tutorial only works on the 3d version. There are, however, older scripts that work in 2.02. Just do a Google search.

Yours was the first tutorial I read when I decided to get into fractal art. It got me up and going quickly.
Many Thanks,
dan

Good tutorial. Funny, I use 20000 and oversample 2 or 3...and it only takes about 8 hours. But I STILL get grain. Oh well, I guess thats what Neat Image is for.

I'm off my soapbox now.
