Bird on a Wire

This pretty little lady was a member of a small flock that liked to hang around the yard hunting for insects. She also sadly suffered from a fear of heights. While the rest of her flock-mates would fly up to the wires and sing their little hearts out. She would sit on the ground and let out the most plaintiff little chirps you'd ever hear a bird make. Some real heart-wrenching sounds that would bring tears to even the most hardened of souls.

So I set about looking for a solution to bring some happiness to this poor little creature. If she couldn't get to the wires with her friends then I would bring the wire to her. I tried laying out some ropes and clothesline for her to perch on. But she could tell the difference and have nothing to do with them. Then finally I tried this old electrical cord that was sitting around. Sure I wouldn't be able to use the electric lawn trimmer, but it was a small price I was willing to pay.

Early the next morning I heard some of the most wondrous sounds wafting through my bedroom window. Turns out the neighbours had their stereo turned up just a little too loud. So I fired off a shoe and went back to sleep after closing the window. Later that day I spied this happy little bird perched proudly on the wire singing out with her mates.

It's a whole other story how she got over her fear of heights. But lets just say the neighbour's cat had a paw in it.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.

This is a really touching story Wendell. I've not heard of birds suffering from acrophobia before. Still, it did enable you to get this excellent close-up of her.
I'm glad to hear the story had a happy ending. Also, I presume this is what the neighbours were playing on their stereo.

Again you have enhanced a good image with an equally good story. I could see the shoe flying through the air. We don't go so much out of our way around here for sparrows. Now if it were a Cardinal.
Maybe we should look out for the sparrows, but one of the shot Cock Robin so I blame the whole lot.
Good post.

Loved your story and made me chuckle to myself about the cat having a paw in it, lol. Such a sweet capture and hope she wasn't hurt.

Hey, Wendell...

I'll bet that narrative doesn't have a single truthful word in it, except for the word "bird". Very entertaining narrative. Typically most birds don't let you get close enough for a shot that's this sharp and well focused. Maybe you should have screamed, Hey, You!!" to get the bird to turn a bit clockwise.
