... Or just couldn't leave it well enough alone.

This is my guard dog. As you can see he doesn't take his job too seriously. He insists on wearing the big red bow-tie; but, I did manage to talk him out of the top hat. He claims it makes him look distinguished, I say he's an oddball. His main job seems to be stubber of toes. It will soon be time to retire him as he is falling apart at the seams. He lost one ear to bad luck and part of his hind leg in a fight. I told him he was no match for that garden gnome but would he listen, no. He also leaves his droppings in the driveway as you can see. Come spring time they will be a lot of cleaning up to do.

One of those images where I started editing and decided to go a little bit further. One of those 'I wonder what it will look like if I do this'. Eventually this is what I ended up with. I'm satisfied with the results and I'm sure you'll let me know if you are as well. Outside of that you gotta admit it's a pretty boring shot.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Wendell - If he's look streetward waiting for you to come home, he's not very bright either, since you are taking the photo! Thad

I would buy him a little firetruck to play with Wendell. Anything that faithful deserves a little TLC.
I think you stopped at just the right time. Good story.

Wendell, a word to the wise: When everyone comments on your narrative and almost nobody comments on the photo, it means something. What that something is - I'm not sure. The narrative is one of your best. Are you really writing a book?

Now for the photo. Gizmo1 mentioned that this isn't a real dog. From here it looks like a real dog, but I'm not so sure that you didn't add the ribbon. I don't agree with your assessment that this is a boring shot. I happen to like the composition and the story that is being told by the photo. Looks like a loyal friend waiting patiently for his master as he gazes into the a vast wasteland.

But as I look more closely at the shot, I'm wondering why the dog is gazing into the depths while you're standing behind him. Makes me wonder if this is a real dog. For a dull shot, you've inspired a variety of comments.

I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens.

Love the story! despite his obvious and sad losses of body parts he is a most fortunate guard dog to be rewarded with the red bow.

You did a great job on this - I like it!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
