From what I have come to understand the good citizens of Halifax erected this fountain back in 1897. They claimed it was to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. I think they were just looking for a place to cool their heels and maybe a chance to see some womanly ankles while doing so.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

I was wondering what the Cherubs were up to Wendell. The source of the water is suspect. A wonderful photo anyway you look at it.

Nicely composed shot, Wendell, but it seems a bit dark for the main subject material. It may be the smaller size I downloaded, but everything's very slow tonight.
It's a tough subject anyway in that lighting. A light but bright overcast sky is probably best. You did well to get that degree of balance (light).

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

I think this composition is very well balanced and the statue is also well highlighted considering how dark it is - a difficult shot, well handled.

Wendell - It's a pretty fancy swimming pool! It appears to be a cast metal fountain, popular in the day, but expensive to maintain. That aside, it is a beautiful part of gorgeous gardens. Thad

Hi, Wendell...

I'm looking at this with my new 23" monitor!!!! Let me tell you something...there's no hiding the innumerable flaws from me now. Like the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, I see and know all.

I actually took the time to read all the comments of those who got here before me. TicK made a good point about the source of the water and I agree with Kathy and Doug about the problematic lighting. Perhaps in the future you can bring in a huge mirror from one of the observatories to enhance the lighting. Looks like the sun was behind you; so perhaps a light system from a Who concert might help some. Perhaps a more attainable option would be for you to change the angle of your shot so that the bright sky is not directly behind the statue. I oftentimes walk around the local parks in 10 meter high stilts. Lighting problem solved. Personally I would have run the shot through the backlight command in PhotoScape.

If time wasn't an issue, perhaps the shot could have been improved by cloning out the car in the left background and the powerlines, sign and fence in the right background. The color is good as is the composition and I see no noise. Technically I'd give this a solid 6.75. However, you know how I feel about photographs of statues and statues of photographs; so in the VB I would have given this a 6.
