I have heard tales of this great beast roaming the forest for many years. So I set out at once to capture it in its natural habitat before it disappeared forever. For many, many months I wandered near and far through the wilderness. Far seemed to work better as near was filled with homes and businesses and some people have a problem with perfect strangers trampling over their petunias or camping out in the produce aisle.

Finally some weeks ago I stumbled onto this site. It was early on a damp, chilly morning; the fog hung thickly and silence reigned in the air. The beast lay at rest, seemingly asleep, but I dared go no closer lest I arouse its rumbling anger and get caught in it's steel jaws. I could only surmise that it was the height of the mating season. A vast swath of the forest had been laid to waste as if the beast had recently battled some rival to defend its territory. I would have consulted an expert in the field, but no experts were to be seen. I later found out that experts like the comforts of civilization.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

You're really lucky, Wendell. I'm pretty sure that's one of those huge Caterpillar beasties, and they're carnivorous.
I understand they have quite a preference for Nova Scotia rump roast, RAW. :-)
I hope you've invested in a good GPS unit.

Good for you, getting out in that fog. You got a nice image for your efforts.

First of all, Wendell, I might suggest a polarizing filter. The beer bottle is not even visible in this shot. Never mind.

First of all, Wendell, that is probably the best narrative I've seen on Caedes. I strongly suggest that you rethink your chosen profession as a gigolo and look into comedy writing. The narrative has everything. Who? What? Where? Why? When? Huh? It immediately grabs the reader's attention by the lapels, moves at breakneck speed, hovers at the moment filled with faulty parallelism and negative capability and ends with a twist that only a contortionist could appreciate and not understand.

First of all, Wendell, I am surprised at the lack of noise (or ambiance). Excellent fog shot. You done good.

A beast indeed! I have seen such devastation and was lucky enough to see the beast clearly but this monster is cloaked in such a way where you have to get closer to see it. That can end up bad for a photographer! Just watch your step next time and count your blessings that you made it back to share this great image! Way to go!

I’m having amnesia and deja vu at the same time - I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Incredible job, Wendell! I am glad that I took the time to read your post before viewing the image in full screen. Very well done on both. I really like the fog and how the foreground shows the detail of the destruction and then fades towards the beast and then you can barely make out the trees in the background that are waiting their demise.

I'm glad you survived your encounter - countless others have gone into the foggy woods never to seen again! Great writing Wendell and good fog shot.

It looks like the beast had a night on the tiles and know is sleeping it off.The story behind this shot make it a very interesting shot,so I must say again well done.

What a great story and imagination along with the great shot Wendell. I hear they are meaner when they have a little gas.
