If the plaque in front of this tree is to be believed way back in June of 1939 King George number six had the audacity to plant this tree while his wife, Elizabeth, looked on. You would think she would pitch in and help, maybe she could have held the tree to make sure it was straight or tamp down the earth around it. You would also think royalty would have someone to do the planting for them. But I suppose everyone needs a hobby, even kings.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Are they buried in that mound front right Wendell? Nothing like a Royal Oak to spruce up a park. The trees all lean to the right and the statue and lamp post lean to the left. The ground must not be on the level. I like the shot and the park.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

Is that smoke or smog over the tree on the far right? It almost look like a clous descended on it - the main tree is beautifully shaped.

Hi ya, Wendell, you honest SOB....

There's somethin' funny goin' on here, Wendell. To me this looks like PhotoSketcher set on a minimal watercolor setting. Yet the above comments preceding mine make me think I'm missing something. Nonetheless this is a beautiful scene. Not sure what possessed you to chop off the top of the tree unless there was a gunman or a wall at your back. I was a little worried at first but then noticed the benches on the far left. I was wondering what Kathy was commenting on since I didn't know if clous was a photography term that I hadn't heard of. I looked it up. Turns out to be from an ancient Phoenician text written on papyrus and means "poorly edited". I can't say that your shot is leaning left or right. I might download a copy and run it through ShiftN. It'll probably end up causing a fatal computer error. The people look basically upright; so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt unless this is some sort of Octoberfest celebration and they're falling down drunk.

All and all, you've posted a remarkably pastoral shot that is beautifully composed. Love the greens, the flowers on the left and the overall serenity of the shot. Except for the clous and the flat top haircut that the tree received, I'm a happy camper

That's a great looking tree and excellent capture. Maybe his wife wasn't standing up straight to make sure it was straight, lol.
