In my search for tree photo-ops I sort of wandered a little too far off the beaten trail. I seemed to have entered the twilight zone where trees randomly choose to defy the laws of nature. I would have liked to have explored this strange land a little longer, but reality called, so I snapped a few shots just so I'd know I hadn't imagined the scene.

This would have been my alternate entry in the contest. But it's a little too unbelievable. Almost like its been manipulated or something...

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Interesting photo. I can't figure out what I'm looking at. Is that the roots on the right? It takes a bit of studying to get it.

Hi, Wendell...

Sometimes I have a hard time making sense of your postings. You sometimes post the most beautiful desktop shots I've seen. Then you occasionally throw in a shot of a toy sheep or a blurry coyote. The only constant in your postings is the inconsistency. I sometimes feel that you're testing us. I agree with Lynne that this is an interesting photo. A few hours ago I wrote about three paragraphs and decided I needed another look at the shot and junked what I had written.

Caedes isn't exactly serious business fort me. It's a good place to learn, share ideas, shoot the breeze and let the world know a little about us from what we post. To me, you are an unsolved puzzle.

Anyway, with that in mind, let me take another pot shot at this image. This to me almost appears to be an abstract although you say it's a landscape. Since I don't see all that much land and am not sure what a scape is, I'm more confused than usual. You have some nice colors in the sky and clouds, but I'm puzzled about the branches off the horizontal limb. They seem to be purposely unfocused. The area where the tree line meets the sky is intermittently blurry as well. Most of the focus is very soft.

You know me and my comments about abstract and non-objective photography. I just don't get it. Mikel "mythmaker" posts some glorious landscapes but is also into something called apo fractals. I can relate to his landscapes but can't express myself when viewing the apo fractals. I guess it took me three paragraphs to say, "I don't get it."

I see those in the woods every time we have a major wind storm, or the occasional micro burst. The roots are quite shallow and spread horizontally, where there is little topsoil over the limestone or granite.

I see that Doug was able to condense Rogers comments into just one moderately short paragraph:) As for me, I see the expression of a confused man-child but don't let that stop you from posting your "Stuff". We need, well, Roger needs fodder for the bin and please don't 'uproot' your self and disappear Wendell:)

Okay, now that you have read all of the above, please allow me to weigh in.

I see the art of your metaphor. The struggle of life. The living and the recent passing. The hope is gone for the part of the family tree laying on the ground, yet the sky is warm and inviting, telling those still standing not to worry, all will be fine.

Wendell, those writing above me may be 100% more correct than me, but I like the metaphor I see and hope it is what you saw too.

I like the soft focus in the sky and background. The trees are sharp and quite dead but will become the vitamins for those to follow. Nice one.

That really is a great find and looks like there must have been a strong wind to blow it over roots and all. Wonderful capture and colours

interesting perspective - sky really blurry don't if it's the angle or focus.
