Get over it already. You're not the one that was kneeling by the side of their bed snapping photos. Besides they're mostly harmless unless disturbed.

I did think about entering this in the latest contest. Then I got a gander at their construction plans. Now I'm no engineer and I can't rightly recall when the last time it was when I was on a train let alone conduct an orchestra. But none of it made any sense to me. As I'm sure this narrative is to most of you. Well then I realized the contest is about industry not hard labour. Otherwise I know of some shovel-leaning work crews that would fit the bill nicely.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

The mandibles on ants can render a nasty bite. You were lucky to get that close and not find them climbing up the inside of your pants looking for something thicker than the dead grass. Now I'm no expert on Canadian ants, but this formation looks to me like their home or rather the thatched roof of their home.

Very nice focus, an excellent monotonal image except for the bit of green intruding on the left. I feel kind of bad for the people that download this as their desk top shot. The again they deserve it for downloading it. I have always found that many itsy bitsy things on a desktop drive me nuts. Shots like this make rotten desktops.

Actually the image is almost in the texture category. Pretty nifty, Wendell.

Scarey stuff, Wendell. Have never seen anything like that. Saw a snake ball emerging from a underground winter home, once.
I think I'd crop it tighter around the heaviest population, just to make them bigger and scarier, though it's a great capture regardless.

I have to agree with Roger that i do find it way too much to have on a desktop as it makes me a little dizzy but the shot in itself is very interesting. There is so much teeny tiny detail going on its hard to know where to look or what to focus on. However, they do look very industrious as pointed out. Very clever :)

Those 'guys' are orginaized and hard at it!! It is good of you to take notice of their skilled labor. Then, afterwards, they all get together and 'hang out' at 'Nifftie's Bar and Grill.'

I think it would make a great contest entry Wendell. Who knows more about industry then Aunts. They worked hard when the Uncles were off to war.
One of your best.

Another EEWWW but nicely done - are they carpenter ants? Could be building a whole new abode!
