A mid-morning visitor to the backyard. Though it could have been there a lot earlier for all I know considering I didn't wake up until then. As you can see it has been slowly chipping away at the tree. I expect in another day or two the tree will topple over.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

The Pileated woodpecker is among the largest woodpecker, and they are illusive. You sure got one heck of shot with the lens on this one, I commend you for that my friend, kudos on a good well detailed image. =^..^=tigs

Love these Pileated woodpeckers, Wendell.
They sound like jack hammers in the woods.

Good nature capture, Wendell. I'm not sure what the Woodpecker is going to do with that hole he's chipping away at. The tree limb looks to small for a dwelling.

Must be nice to have your own backdoor woody mate!....What I would give for that!

Good capture..that tree does look in need of some 'Filler'

Wendell - I like the vignetting and surround of tree branches to focus the eye on the woodpecker. It is easy to know when one of these is in the neighborhood! Thad

Wow this is a beautiful looking capture is stunning how the colours of the bird are jumping out of the woodland scene and the detail is superb along with your presentation too.

Great capture Wendell. I hear woodpeckers around my house all the time, but getting a good shot of one is difficult.

They sure loved the old and decaying trees. I see in full that it's a Male Pileated Woodpecker. That happened to a tree or two in the ravine at our backyard. Marvelous shot
