Lovely work. Definitely 3d, as keifer said. I get the sense this spiral belongs in an underwater world with fronds of seaweed and tiny, sparkling fish glittering through the "shell"...

I don't really like the blue background, but the flame is magnificent enough that I couldn't not comment. Very nice work. I like the choice of gradient, how certain areas (center) are washed out. very nice.
