The subject and frame are really great, you've got a small scale animal shot with a great narrative, warm colours and that mysterious dark gash playing counterpoint to the diagonal wash of sunlight from the top right of the image through the subject. All of that is awesome goodness. I think you'd increase the impact a fair bit with some serious cropping....all that dark tree trunk on the left is adding nothing to the image, not even "negative space", and off centering the squirrel would probably improve the composition as well. Might as well make the most of such fantastic raw elements.
