I'm still getting used to this all Manual shooting priority, but having lots of fun with it! I tried to allow foccus on the weather beaten cattails while retaining the sky and of course the Barn. (1/100, F.11) AWB. Canon Rebel Xti. 18-55mm kit lens w/ circular polarizing filter.

Mmmm, my first impression is that this photo has a wonderful feel to it. As I look deeper, though... I find a conflict of interest. I can't really find one thing that is overwhelmingly the focus of the image over everything else. As you said, the cattails seem to be in focus, but they are so dark that they don't feel like the focal point. Maybe some color adjustments could help fine-tune this?

Love the worn tails with the weathered barn...against that perfect sky. Excellent. The shedding of the tails, and the shedding of the roof tiles. I want to BE there, step into the photo and continue to take it all in. Very nice effect beyond visual.
