This was taken on Tuesday at Burger Hill Park, Rhinebeck,Dutchess County, N.Y. The sun had a odd sphere around it, and there were some wierd looking rainbows in the sky. And Thanks to John [Tweezer] for telling me the name of this occurrence, It's called "Sun Dog" Click HERE

I have to get my sunglasses...be right back. (After a few minutes of looking for the sunglasses..) OK, I found them. That's better. That's really bright. You mean the sun really looked like that? I though it was lens flare or something. Pretty neat.

Very Nice! The phenomenom is commonly called a "Sun Dog" and happens when the sun is viewed through high Cirrus clouds with lots of ice crystals in them. The rainbow is caused by these crystals. Great capture and color. The same effect can be seen with the moon at night under the same conditions.
