A sunrise scene from Chemical beach @ Seaham, County Durham U.K.The beach got its name from Seaham Chemical Works which occupied a nearby site in the 1860s. For this scene I used an 81c warming filter & a 0.9nds grad filter & painted the rocks in the foreground with a strong torch as it was still quite darkjust before sunrise. Hope you like it, C & C always welcomed..

This proves it Mick, you definately dont sleep. Great tones captured here, the smooth sky and sea compliment each other while the lighter rocks and pool add interest. Thanks for the explanation on its name. Saved and faved.

Surreal other worldly image. Captivating colors and details. I need to make sure I understand painting with a strong torch!

The light painting part is to shine the torch evenly over the area you want to lighten i.e. the rocky foreground, whilst the shutter is open (8 seconds in this picture). As I had to set the exposure to get the sky right it would have left the foreground potentially underexposed, the extra light from the torch helps avoid it being too dark in the final picture.
Hope that lot makes sense LOL :-) & answers your question Allison... :-)

If u have a look at my gallery you will see that this is the type of photography i really enjoy, and i can really appreciate it. This is a wonderful shot, the detail in the foreground and exposure is spot on, you've also managed to maintain the stunning colour in the sky. It's a very well balanced shoreline pic, and i think it deserves a much higher c-index! Faved.

Lovely colors, and I like the texture of the water and sky. My only negative comment is the unnatural crisp horizon. Regardless of whether this was on purpose or not, it gives the image a sense of unnatural... ness, of artificiality. Most of the scapes that human eyes see have horizons that are even a bit blurry; so seeing something this sharp immediately puts the brain on guard. Otherwise, I love it.
