More than 40 years ago a dear friend gave me this orchid for my birthday. It arrived in a bucket and was then transferred to a nice pot and lived inside for several years until it looked really sad and stopped flowering. So it was relegated to a large pot outside for its 'retirement'. From then it has flowered when it feels like it, usually in September, some years not at all. This year it outdid itself and bloomed exactly on my birthday last month !

Lyn, I didn't know that orchids have a feeling for proper timing, 😁 . I think however that blooming exactly on your birthday is a coincidence. Whether this is true or not, doesn't matter. The surprise was no less for that.

How beautiful, and so special. We have a mauve rose that Harry really liked - it has bloomed once on the anniversay of his passing.
