First the cropping issue... cropping may be done according to screen dimensions or personal feelings for an effective image due to eliminating certain unwanted portions of a picture.

My second remark comes from Kimberly's comment about the water at the horizon... it makes me want to rotate the image .4° CCW. And once I had, I noticed that the vertical lines were now vertical.

Thirdly... it is indeed an appealing image. (I did remove some water to make it widescreen!) Thanks for the post!

I did crop the photo quite a bit to eliminate part of the bridge and some powerlines! the water in the background is the Atlantic Ocean!
