This old Gum Tree looks like it was struck by lightening but actually it's pretty common for gums to kill off diseased parts of themselves. Many campers, who made the mistake of camping under gum trees with large dead boughs, have been awakened by a falling dead tree limb thumping into their tent or hitting the ground nearbye.

Enjoy.

Mikel.

When I was a young boy my parents already gave me the warning not to stay under trees when there was a danger of lightning.
Because there is remaining heat in the crown of the tree, the tree creates a column of moist air: an ideal conductor for lightning. Can tell an indentical story of being alone in a wide open space, but I'll keep this story for the next time, lol.

Thanks for this wonderful post, Mikel.

Regards, Cornelius.

Had no idea that these trees would do that. Thanks for the nature lesson! The whole tone of the photo has a dark and mystical feel to it. Nicely done.

Seriously like this one. Good balance between detail and softness.
