These are our local ' Stocks ' A couple of centuries ago these were used to punish those found guilty of petty crime. when the villian was placed in the stocks, people would throw rotting food at them which would add humiliation to their guilt. This set of stocks is outside St.Peters Church Newton - le - Willows and opposite a lovely pub called the Kirkfield. Thanks to all my friends who have commented on my recent submissions, some of which were taken during periods of high winds. As for the wires, I have'nt got a wire fetish, (yet), there is no escape from them in my area, we have a power station close by. Bob, there is a small bench behind the stocks, if you fancy it !! :)

What a interesting picture. It makes me glad, that we leave in a world, where most countries stopped unhuman practices like that or worse. Its good to see this picture as an interesting thing from the past. Good job!

Oh hey, would you like me to give you a couple of people to put in those stocks? We'll start with a guy that lives up in Washington. Ha! Very interesting post. I'm glad we don't hve those today. Pat

I'm sure anyone would prefer the bench to the stocks:) Makes for an interesting pic though, a stoic reminder of past cruelties. Good capture.

I think....for serious crimes...we need to bring back the more barbaric forms of punishment....like this....and worse! :) We need to put the fear back into punishment because crime is way out of control. Nice shot! :)
