Funny you should say that about the protective gear. This equipment, circa 1870, was state of the art in it's day. The screen, you see behind the saw blade, was added much after judging from the materials. I wonder what finally posessed them to put the "safety" feature to stop people from stumbling onto the saw. Never mind, I don't want to explore that thought any further. *wink*
As for me, you'll note that I didn't take any shots in the trajectory of sawblade and I was quite greateful for a long lense. (true)
