A macro shot of a "crystal" (about 40mm dia.) The image is unmodified apart from cropping and a little sharpening - the colours are natural.

Very unique photo Simon. Curious as to what type of crystal it was? Very nice colors...similar to a rainbow. Good job:-)

Wow. Was sure this was a computer image when I saw the thumbnail.

I like the picture. What was behind the crystal?

Thanks all. It's a glass ornament, multi-faceted like a crystal, which was made with a coloured circle of felt stuck to the base, so it would appear to shine blue and purple when it caught the light. I got the photo by setting it at an angle on a mirror and pointing a light so it would catch it from above and below. The lace-like effect lower left seems to be some sort of "bloom" on the bottom surface of the glass, while the gold patterns on the right were refractions of a couple of mms of some sort of gilt finish around the base. Finally, although I had some coloured card behind to cut out any stray background image (Crystal Heart 1 featured the lounge curtains quite heavily), it seemed to pick up much more colour from reflections from in front: I had the camera on a tripod, but if I held it when I took a shot it picked up a lot of flesh tones from my fingers!
