wow.. soft around the edges, not fake looking.. that's some fantastic work you've got there!! I especially like how you kept some of that foliage in the background.. Amazing work!
Thanks to all for the acknowledgements.. To answer the question about enhancements - there were none. I aim to show exactly what I shoot. No doubt one day I will take a shot that I love, which has some flaw that I want to correct, but for the moment I'm just going to leave the shots as they are.
That doesn't mean that I don't think that people who work with enhancements don't do a wonderful job - they do. It's just my personal preference to work with the camera rather than Photoshop.
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts." Bertrand Russell
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is a society, where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar,
I love not man less, but Nature more
--Lord Byron
This is assuredly the work of a pro, the lighting and almost vignetting aspect to the image draws the eye straight into the shadows, no loss of detail, quite the bold image.

"Live in such a way that you would not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip."
Will Rogers
My first thought was...BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the clarity of the shot! And the black background really sets off the white flower. Very, very well done. I'm a big fan of flower pictures...but this one is truly beautiful...much more so then most I've seen!!!
