Wonderful early morning lighting, Tom! Seeing the shallow waters of the area reminds me of recent reading about the poor selection of location for the Plantation in 1620, with shoals and shallow waters making access by boat limited to high tide. After stops along the Cape Cod Bay-side coast, it makes me wonder what prompted them to select this location. Enough of the history stuff - I'll enjoy the view your photo provides.
I know that they arrived in late fall early winter Thad and probably wanted the protection provided by the Plymouth beach peninsula to keep the ship from storms. They were most likely very good seaman and could find the ways around the shallows there.
