One of the oldest plantations left standing in southeast Louisiana, it was built for D'estrehan who married into another local French family, Trepagnier. The house is supported by a Foundation and raises money for its upkeep by an annual festival. It was restored about 40 years ago after a time of abandonment and decay by the oil company who owned it.

That tree has more character then all of Walter Brennan's movie roles put together Colleen. What a beautiful setting. I would never leave my Mint Julep or the veranda if I lived there. I would just soak up the atmosphere.

Wonderful post.

Wonderful place; glad it is still standing.
Oh, the stories it could tell. Looks like a great place for ghosts to gather and swap stories...if you believe in ghosts and things that go bump in the night.

I like to drive downtown and get a great parking spot, then sit in my car and count how many people ask me if I'm leaving.

What a beautiful beautiful photo! The big Oak tree with all that fantatic Spanish Moss! Oh my..it sure takes me back to when I lived in South Louisiana. I miss a lot of those things, but most of all the people! I saw that Louisiana is now the happiest state in America! Thats awesome! THis house is just gorgeous! and the way you caught the sunlight, just brings the whole thing into even more beauty.I would love to just walk around there and go inside too. Thank you so much for such a great shot. Verena
