Reminds me of the one in New York's Chinatown...I don't know what the characters mean...But it is to guard against evil spirits and misfortune...Ancient Chinese/Oriental folklore took the concepts of good and evil seriously...Inspirational capture...

Nice photo. I love these entrances to Chinatown, no matter what the city - they are all unique. I always put my hand in the lion's mouth and roll the jade ball for luck!
