Frank, I have to honest above being polite. Such a photograph has, in fact, to be taken, with a zoom or macro lens. If one doesn't have such a lens or don't use it and choses to enlarge the picture with an editor, it is inevitable that noise and/or blur is introduced. I see at full screen size a tad of blur and noise indeed. Anyhow it was worth to check how this 'attempt' turned out.

I really like the concept here. I do have to agree with corngrowth, though. Here is a thought for you: next time, use a macro or tele lens to take the shot for clarity, color and sharpness. Then, in editing, use a sphere type filter/effect to achieve the feel you have here - thus retaining the clarity and color. Once again, I really do like the idea of this. Nice thinking!
