Richie, your title/'narrative' is cryptic to me as I know only a Mare's Tail as the Hippuris vulgaris plant.
I hope however that the by you depicted wonderful landscape isn't 'polluted' by this plant because it's an invasive, deep-rooted perennial weed that will spread quickly to form a dense carpet of foliage, crowding out less vigorous plants in beds and borders.
