Casle of the 'Ras' landlords, first described in 1171, built on a striking hill next to a sling of the river Drau in the Rosental (Rose Valley, got its name by the Ras family). Santonino wrote about the castle in 1486. Amongst the later owners are names like Schaunburger, Perkheim, Raitenauer and since 1886 the Orsini-Rosenbergs. During the French Wars in 1813 the village St. Michael (today Rosegg) was almost destoyed completely. Prince Orsini-Rosenberg allowed the widely demolition of the castle to reconstruct the village buildings. An adept was involved to make sure the ruin remains in a pictorial look. Since 1833 the owner is the Liechtenstein family. Thanks to everyone who views and comments!

Very beautiful shot Chris with great colors and clarity. I like the composition, but the fence is a bit of a distraction from the old walls.

When you're through with life and all hope is lost. Hold out your hand 'cos friends will be friends - right till the end.

Thanks for the narrative. It's nice to know the history behind what I'm looking at!

"I never looked for it, gave it no name; yet I knew it always, when the gift of peace came. I stood quite still for the moment that it lasted...Then the light shifted slightly and the moment passed, leaving me...with the lasting echo of its presence.." Diana Gabaldon
