You've all heard of the Ferry that crosses the Mersey from the famous song, well here are the Cathedrals Across the Mersey. In the foreground is the Anglican Liverpool Cathedral. This is the largest cathedral in Britain, the largest protestant cathedral in Europe (and possibly the world) and is the fifth largest cathedral in the world. Just behind it is the Metropolitan Cathedral, which is the Catholic Cathedral. The two are about half a mile apart and are joined very nicely by Hope Street.

This image was taken from the Wirral side of The Mersey so I was probably a mile and a half from the Anglican Cathedral.

Terrific view of these fine buildings!

I don't think we can even visualize those that worked on them!

Nice to see the two buildings from this vantage point Steve. What a shot from such s distance !
Nice work indeed !

They are both such imposing churches in their different architectural styles. Seeing 'her' cathedral completed (The Anglican one) was a highlight of a visit my mother and I made - it had been under construction all of her life before she came to NZ. Finally finished in 1978. She was Confirmed there. And I was delighted to see the finished 'wigwam' because as you know I helped to build it :) Interesting that the Metropolitan Cathedral was designed by an Anglican and the Anglican Cathedral designed by a Roman Catholic.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Some good info from both you and LE, Caruso.
I like the vertical presentation.
Well shot from such a distance.

This is something ! Two cathedrals, so different in just about everything, standing side by side. Very good and informative image, Steve.

A sharp and nice capture of the imposing cathedral Steve. Very good clarity considering the distance.
