The Social Contract, Britannica

To renounce liberty is to renounce being a man, to surrender the rights of humanity and even its duties. For he who renounces everything no indemnity is possible. Such a renunciation is incompatible with man's nature; to remove all liberty from his will is to remove all morality from his acts.
Jean‐Jacques Rousseau

In a well governed state, there are few punishments, not because there are many pardons, but because criminals are rare; it is when a state is in decay that the multitude of crimes is a guarantee of impunity.
Jean‐Jacques Rousseau

Who controls the past, controls the future: who controls the present, controls the past…The mutability of the past is the central tenet of Ingsoc. Past events, it is argued, have no objective existence, but survive only in written records and in human memories. The past is whatever the records and the memories agree upon. And since the Party is in full control of all records, and in equally full control of the minds of its members, it follows that the past is whatever the Party chooses to make it.
George Orwell , 1984

John, your very fine posts often make me wonder if the principle of: "Which came first? The chicken or the egg?" applies to. First a well-chosen selection of quotes/poem(s) and music links and then creating the render, or the other way around?
In fact, it doesn't matter. The final result is often intriguing and stunning.
This is also the case here.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
