I captured this photo while floating in the thermal pools of the Rio Dulce (Guatemala) which are basically thermal vents that heat the water near the shoreline. The extremely hot water (like burn your hand if you put it too close to the thermal vent) floats to the top so the water on the top is very warm while the water below is cool so it gives a great effect to swimming. The soil is full of sulfur which the locals believe is good for the skin so they treat acne and other skin ailments with the soil near the thermal vents. Also of note, Tommy Lee Jones has a house on the Rio Dulce and a very, very sweeeeet yacht. I asked him if he wanted to hang out with us but he said he was too busy kicking ass in the film world at the moment.

I like the look of the water, nice light and shadows in your photo. A nice angle and perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Think about the photo before and after, never during. The secret is to take your time. You mustn't go too fast. The subject must forget about you. Then, however, you must be very quick. Henri Cartier-Bresson

I like the black look of the water especially since it's not the result of an oil spill. Your interesting description is very much appreciated.

happy that you took this guatemala. It's such a beautiful country, and you don't hear about/see it's beauty, only it's injustices. so thanks for that. the photo is good, but it doesn't speak to me. if i didn't know it was taken in guatemala, i probably would have passed right over it.
