The 'Alexander von Humboldt' while sailing outward bound after a port call in Flushing, Zeeland, The Netherlands.

She's not sailing anymore, as she's (since April 19th, 2015) permanently moored now in the Europahafen in Bremen, Germany. She's replaced by the 'Alexander von Humboldt II'.

Very nice shot of this beautiful sailing vessel with its conspicuous green sails Cornelius. Clear details overall and sharp focus too.

As hard as I try, there has yet to be a vessel named for me! Perhaps after I move on, someone will recognize me with a ship or statue (lol).

You were fortunate to obtain this fine photo while she was underway, Cornelius. Fantastico!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

This is dramatic with that sky for a mood setter. Very well done, but I know not to expect anything less in quality from you my good friend.

The Alexander von Humboldt is a fine looking three masted rig - I like her green sails - Great Capture Cornelius!!!!! Question: Why are ships given men's names, but they are referred to as "she".

---Why are ships given men's names, but they are referred to as "she"---

Laura, you're right. Ships are female. The answer why ships are given sometimes men's names, can probably be found by checking-out this link, lol. Seriously now: I don't know the answer as ships got even names like 'Challenger', 'Independence', and so on.

She is a beauty Mr. C. - I love the green sails which is so unusual and what an excellent shot as she was outward bound.

So she was used for sail training, the link says. I'm glad you included the smaller sailboats to give perspective, because that is a large vessel. Attractive image with the unusual green sails!
