Galena, Illinois was a prosperous lead mining town in the late 19th century, at one time larger than Chicago. Ulysses S. Grant lived there for a few years, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas had a debate there, and it was a fort during the Black Hawk War. Today, the main street and hundreds of old houses have been preserved, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Glad to see they preserved such a beautiful place. You've captured the quaintness and the colors quite well. It's very eye appealing. One critique though is how you framed this photo. What's most interesting in this photo is the beautiful street and its colorful buildings in the foreground. The house up on the hill seems drab compared to the brilliant colors of the foreground. I'd like to see another view, but with the main street filling the whole frame, rather than getting cut off at the bottom. That would make a good picture great!

Christopher gave you very good advice. I too would like to see the Main Street with its signs and colors. Your photo is very good on colors and clarity. Galena also has a great golf course. Keep up the good work and good luck to you.

I guess I'm the oddball, 'cause I like the view of the house on the hill. Nice shot!
