that's me walking on a rock intruding into the Sluice Box Rapids, just before the South Nahanni River leaps over a 95 meter drop (thats twice Niagara). I think this picture shows how small we are compared to the vast power of our world. 50mm f/11 1/125s

Some words are over-used, but this shot truly rates the epithet "Awesome". What a powerful and stirring depiction you have given us here!

That is quite the river. Too bad you are centered:(. I suppose that was a little out of your control considering im going to guess you just went walking and someone else grabbed your camera.

Great shot, you have bigger ones than me to walk there.

The inclusion of you in the shot really gives us a perspective of how great these falls really are, just as you said in your description. I like the widescreen set up too...it really accentuates the rocks jutting out from the right, and the falls crashing down from the left. Very nicely done!!

Is there a sign just out of view to the right of the picture saying how many people have died doing that? :D

Stunning shot, thanks for sharing it.

Wow... what a powerful capture.. it certainly gives a perspective of how small we really are.. it would have been an incredible experience standing there hearing the roar of the water and feeling the power... fantastic work..

Wow! What a dramatic and powerful presentation. A little frightening to see you so close to that wild water. The rushing water is scary and gorgeous! Good composing, clarity and everything! Those stone walls, and the rock area you are on have their own beauty. This should get a 10++++. Magnificent job Carl!!

actually Jacqueline, i know of at least one person who has died in modern history around these falls, and heard legends of people in days gone by being swept over the falls. the person i speak of was a guide with one of the other companies guiding on the river, he left camp (2km upstream) saying he was going to go explore the falls after their day of portaging. to make the story short, he never returned, noone knows what happened.

I love not only the image, but the way that you have captures such meaning into a picture. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I would say that this one is worth many more. Great job!!
