Nauset Lighthouse is made of cast iron with a brick lining and stands 48 feet high. It was built in 1877, and was located in Chatham, MA as a twin to the one that is there today. In 1923, it was dismantled, moved to Eastham, MA and reconstructed. In the 1940's, Nauset Light was painted red and white as a daytime indicator of the red and white beacon. In 1996, it was moved to this location when the cliffs overlooking Nauset Light Beach eroded to within 25 feet of the lighthouse.

Don as a retired seaman I have some weakness (or is it perhaps real interest?) for this kind of photography, so my comment can't be that objective, lol.
Thanks for this wonderful image and a very interesting narrative indeed. Well done!

Or "Have Lighthouse, Will Travel"? I too love lighthouses, and you've done this one justice not only with your photo, but also with the history behind it!

Neat shot Don! A tighter croping would really be nice too.

This is really nice, Don. I like this lighthouse and have shots of it too. Great colors with the red and white against the great blue sky.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Lovely capture. The day we were there on vacation it was overcast and foggy.

Great light house! Very interesting. Looks like it was a bright day too. I like the contrast of the blue sky but it looks like the sun was conspiring to overexpose....
Wonderful none the less!!

Thanks, Gerry.

Robert Gordon Jones, a local pro, used to tell me: "A good picture always tells a story, and a good story must have a good foundation." A picture may be worth a thousand word, but without a frame of reference, most of those words will be wasted.

I know this lighthouse well and used to romp around this area as a child. My parents had a summer house in Eastham on the bayside. This is a mighty fine image of this historic lighthouse.
