In 1981, the Peoples Republic of Bulgaria issued a 2-Leva coin commemorating the International Hunting Exhibition.

The Obverse:
The Coat of Arms contains the dates 681 – 1944. In 681, Khan Asparuh conquered Moesia and Scythia Minor from the Byzantine Empire, and the established the Bulgar capital of Pliska, marking the beginning of the First Bulgarian Empire.

In September 1944, the Soviet army entered Bulgaria, enabling the Bulgarian Workers Party) to seize power and establish a communist state, bringing an end to the Kingdom of Bulgaria.

The Reverse:
Using my limited knowledge of Russian, I translated the phrase, "световно ловно изложение", to be "International Hunting Exhibition". Since there are some differences in Russian and Bulgarian, this may not be completely accurate. If it is not, please let me know the correction.

In 1990, after the Revolutions of 1989, the Communist party gave up its monopoly on power and Bulgaria transitioned to democracy and free-market capitalism and removed the Soviet version of the coat of arms from the flag. The also changed their name to Republic of Bulgaria.

Enjoy.

Another history lesson and most welcomed. You must have these catalogued to remember where they are from. Again you have done a wonderful job in the presentation and the macro photography.

Many thanks for your comment of "International Hunting Exhibition", Susanne. I have a fondness for falconry. It is one of my favorite exhibitions at the State Fair of Texas.
