Last night as I was wondering around my yard I noticed a dove on the ground eating seeds the other birds had spilled out of the feeder. When he saw me he went right up into the tree. The lighting was OK outside but up in the branches of the tree it was poor. I decided to use my flash even though I knew I would only have one shot at getting his picture. What you are looking at is the result, hope you guys like it.

A lovely capture of this dove Don & you captured it perfectly considering the lighting conditions. Very nicely done. You are really presenting some splendid bird images ... keep 'em coming.

What a good shot! It can be difficult to get good pics of animals and this one is really good especially for being on the spur of the moment.

Don, you made a wise choice to use the flash. I'm glad you got this shot. I handled and sold a lot of doves at the pet shop; they're such wonderful birds! Typically, they are "bottom feeders" so you'll probably see them on the ground more than not. My one suggestion to take your already nice photo to the next level would be to clone through those lighter foreground leaves that were washed out with the flash. I can just hear him cooing as I watch your wonderful bird show! ;) - Patty

The dove is captured so well! It is lovely. For the lighting, the only thing wrong are the washed out leaves, but a great job though. :)

What a wonder Dan. It's a great capture and perfect post. They are beautiful creatures and seem to have found a home outside my condo here in Houston and I love to watch them as well. Your photo is crystal clear and I love the background you've captured this one in. Agree on the cloning but it's certainly not all that distracting. He's certainly a wonderful sight. Well done.

Very good shot Don. I agree with Patty (ResDes) cloning out foreground leaves would really help composition...but still good shot...gerry..

You did a fantastic job on this one. The way you got such a close shot of the dove, framed by the branches and leaves is really lovely.
