This is a part of the monumental synagogue that was the center of Jewish religious life at Sardis during the Late Roman period. Discovered in 1962, the building and its decorations have been partly restored. This is from the middle of the entry to the synagogue into a colonnaded forecourt. The right is entry porch and on the left there is the main hall of assembly over 50 m. long. The synagogue occupied the corner of the Roman bath-gymnasium complex. Tanju

Hello Tanju!

It is really a pleasure to know through your lenses a little bit of the history and culture of your country. A very beautiful photo, sharp and good clarity.

The reason why the sunsets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

The architacture is wonderful!
This photo really made me open my eyes - the clear colours and contrast between stone and sky is great. I also like the shadows cast.

Stunning - for the mixture of angular and tubular elements. Looks nice and hot too. I think I should visit Turkey one of these days.
