I don't know why they do that. Maybe to dry up maybe to be heated by the sun.

Hi Tanju!:-)

Super beautiful bird with these golden-brown tones! The lighting in your photo is perfect bringing out all the beauty of this wonderful fellow! Great work my friend!

I have a very similar photo, but with a blak bird called Biguá here in Brazil, I will post tomorrow to share with you, but in my case, was a rainy day and he did this under a thin rain, maybe taken a bath? lol

Hi Tanju,
I have seen Cormorants in Florida and they spread their wings out to dry. Lovely capture of a Cormorant drying his wings on the wind...marvelous as always!

Hi Tanju. I do not know why they extend their wings. In my case, I do it for balance so that I do not fall into walls or thin air! lol.

The detail in the winds is extraordinary.

Tanju - Yes, the cormorant uses the breeze to dry off. With their large wingspan, it is an impressive sight. You captured the colors and details very well in this shot. Thad

Is the bird forming the live Holy Cross? Is the bird praying for Jesus Christ ? Don't know but nothing wrong to think that way in this nice holy picture............Bijan

Your right Tanju..They don't have natural oils like other seabirds and have to dry off..Excellent shot...R.

Nice job showing the eye so well, not to mention the colors and detail of the wings. I think they spread their wings to dry them.

This is a beautiful take! I've seen big birds do this in real and I do believe that they spread their wings like that and sit in the sun in order to dry themselves - since they get wet from catching fish in the waters and unless they dry themselves it becomes harder for them to fly.
