This is an old train depot near Effingham SC. I wonder how many people that live in this area remember when this was the heart of their community? Now it just sits neglected, trash strewn and forgotten.Such a shameful way to treat this old building.

A briiliant capture of yesteryear....when trains were the main means of transportation across the country. Seems that is so long ago but not a forgotten part of our past. This really gets you thinking. Excellent work.

What a great old photo of this proud old station and I couldn't agree more that it's such a shame to see it neglected and forgotten...what history it holds and what a flurry of excitement was no doubt once found here as the people of the time embarked on a train trip...I remember how I loved a train ride as a kid...these things should not be forgotten...too bad the people of this area wouldn't try to have this preserved...well, thanks for sharing this bit of nostalgia, Eileen.:Pat.

Wow, Eileen. You struck it rich, with that find. What a beautiful old relic.
Hmmm, sounds like me, without the beauty.
I'll get back to you, though. Have to try something.

Oooh, Eileen....I am a nostalgia buff and this is just fascinating! Wonderful manip...gave it that old time photo feel. I live in Reading, PA...you know Reading Railroad...on Monopoly....We have more than one old abandoned train station. Your description, about this once being the heart of the the community, really makes you see the that so much has changed. Love this girlfriend!!

Wonderful shot. I really like this kind of thing. Great felling of days gone by. I love the light sepia tone on this. Excellent picture.

a very nice shot but i think the sepia tone is a little too uniform and posterised. other than that a nicely composed shot indeed.

Hey Eileen,

This is excellent! Good going with the sepia look. It looks like something right out of the 20's or 30's. Very good job. SHTR

Whadda snap Eileen!! Great overall placement and subject!!

Agree with philUK though...seems a little something, maybe too 1 tonal..needs a little less in some spots, more in another.

Wouldnt this just be lovely to redo? Just think, make it into a home or a cafe or just some little something or other. Give it life again. There are a lot of people who buy places like this and make gorgeous home out of them. Im so glad you took this pic...its so touching and makes one thing back to times when these places had bigtime value...and now look, as you said, its shameful its so neglected...but sure am glad you took a photo of it...V

As I viewed this photo I set back in my chair and tried to imagine this old depot in its day. Pretty painted wood, familys walking along the old wooden walkway, a trains whistle can be heard in the distance and as it comes near the children saying momie I hear the choo choo coming. Eileen, I really enjoy seeing this photo of yours. You have done a wonderful job presenting this for us to see. ( I like that old tire laying there ha ha)

that's my favourite of your gallery. this is a really great perspective. the lines of the rails, botom/roof/top of the house are just set right to each other. the sepia is very suitable for this old abaddoned house. same for the bit much brightness. gives it the look of a picture that was hanging on the wall a long time. great afterwork here. oh and i like the tyre. well done.
btw, thanks for the comment on caged

Believe I've been in Effingham while on vacation. Love those old shots and how it makes your mind "wander" and "wonder." This does both.
