Home of the Carnegie family in the 1800s this is what is left of the 60 room mansion after being burnt in 1959. This photo definitely does not do the intricate workmanship that went into building this justice at all. Still standing proud with thousands of visitors each year, with only 300 allowed per day walking about the grounds to take in the fallen beauty that lies here and elsewhere on the grounds. Hope you've enjoyed the series and thanks so much for coming along with me.

Is this on Cumberland Island? A fine capture and a good time of the year to visit. The no-see-em's are a real pain in the Spring.

I think all that's left of this that's usable is the Hall and they moved that to New York. Wow, that must have been some mansion. Wonder why they didn't restore the old girl. Great capture and I take it from photo, you weren't one of the 300 allowed in there. Great work Eileen and I did enjoy your vacation.

I can imagine during it's time this mansion stood proudly in all its glory. I can't imagine having 60 rooms to upkeep & then the grounds also. The ruins look great against that clear blue sky. I really nice capture Eileen & sounds like an interesting place to visit.

I guess they were so famous that people will want to see even the ruins of their wealth. Interesting tale, Eileen and a really good shot!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

"I never looked for it, gave it no name; yet I knew it always, when the gift of peace came. I stood quite still for the moment that it lasted...Then the light shifted slightly and the moment passed, leaving me...with the lasting echo of its presence.." Diana Gabaldon
