Yesterday I received an inquiry as to the people of Sedona. Around 1 A.D. a large group of native americans occupied the mesas and canyons of Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah. These ancient peoples were divided into the Anasazi, Hohokam and Mongollon. The Anasazi occupied Southern Utah, Nevada, Colorado and Northern Arizona and New Mexico. The Hohokam occupied most of Arizona and the Mongollon,South eastern Arizona, South western New Mexico and Norther Mexico. A subgroup of the Hohokam, Sinaqua (without water in spanish) occupied the area around Cottonwood Arizona, (15 miles away from Sedona). Here is an image of the ruins that they left.

Their structures were amazing (as were the Anasazi's) and that they have endured the desert winds to this day is unbelievable. A great capture Garrett - I have never seen this settlement before.

I think it is amazing the hardships they endured back then, this was no easy feat. We are so spoiled in these modern times, very nice post. . =^..^=tigs♥

For some reason, it made me think of this commercial Garrett.
Glad you shared this unusual fortress with us.

There are a LOT of stones in that structure! I can't imagine the work that went in to it. I'm assuming it had a roof at one time. It looks like a place where you could find artifacts, but they are probably buried. Very interesting one!!
