A Beachmaster sleeps with one eye open watching for young bulls that may try to poke his females. This group is not one of the high ranking harems. Those farther away from the water are. Their pups are more secure from the rising tide and the mothers from pokes by young unproven bulls. To get to the harems near the cliffs the young bulls will have to pass by many Beachmasters and suffer the consequences of their action. Occasionally a young bull will make it to the cliff only to realize his mistake when he is ready to head back to the water and must pass through a maze of Beachmasters.

It looks like the male as backed off from the females to get a better view of them and I love the colours again that are lovely and natural plus the light on the approaching sea adds a lovely feel to this photo as well. Plus I it nice how the light is highlighting the fur on some of the females too.
