Same bird as previous post of Great Blue Heron only this is a closeup of him. Used a 70-300mm lens with focal length of 300mm. The shutter speed was set at 1/1000 aperture was set at f/5.6 and ISO was set at 200.

Wonderful close-up, Gerry, the detail in the feathers is marvelous. Boy, this bird is really hunkered down for the cold!

Great shot Gerry ... and not just for technical reasons. I don't think I've ever seen a more clear expression in a birds eyes that says "Buddy could you spare a nip from that brandy flask you're swiggin' from" Brrrrr :o) Wonderful capture.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.

What amazing detail you got here Gerry, so very well focused right on the eye and beyond. I love this. You got a good zoomer lens, I will give it a 10 if I see it in the VB. Great work.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Wonderful close up, I like this image more than the other one, maybe because it is a close up so you see more details!

That is an EXCELLENT capture BUT, I have never seens a bird look more frozen and miserable than this poor creature. I hope he isn't as uncomfortable as he appears. Wonderful detail and capture of the eye.

Great close-up Gerry with nicely captured detail. He looks as if he's thinking "Don't just take my picture - find me some fish!" Not a species we get over here, ours are Grey Herons, and struggle just as much in freezing conditions. They are pretty reilient birds however so he should be ok. Lovely portrait - faved.
Cheers,
Steve.
