Took this picture two mornings back. There is a pair that have shown up last three Springs to mate at Nature Preserve I take most of my pictures. Have taken pictures of the babies in past years but have hard time getting shot of male Wood Duck. It is considered one of the most colorful ducks in North America...as you can see from this shot. They are unique in another way...as can be seen from this shot. They are only Duck species to perch in trees and nest in trees...their feet are shaped so they can wrap oround branch.

There were a lot of wood ducks around when I was a kid Gerry but not too many now. I loved to watch them even back then. I just didn't have a camera to take photos. Now I can look at yours and remember. Good post.

We are not that far away from each other, yet I have never seen one of these beauties at any of the preserves around here. Maybe I should look a little harder this year. Very nice shot , Gerry. Good color and clarity.

I've always felt that the wood duck looks fake cause its so beautiful with its colors!!! An excellent shot and great composition Gerry!
