I've always loved the early Landies, & spotted this lla Series model recently it was registered the year England won the World cup at Wembley. But unlike the victorious England team this one's alive, & well, & shall remain so for many years yet to come. I doubt the latest models will reach such a grand age with their steel chassis, old Lady comforts, & crazy computers. ........... There's information below if you fancy further reading .............

The Land Rover arrived in 1948 simply to provide alternative work for a skilled post war workforce in well equipped armaments factories. At the time they thought only farmers would be interested in the vehicle !!
The essential design was modified from the famous Wll American Willys Jeep but due to a severe shortage of steel an aluminium chassis was chosen. In the first year they had calculated to sell 5000 but sold 8000 with a long waiting list for many more !! The Police, Rescue services, Army, and 3rd world travellers were their unforeseen customers the rest is history.

If it was mine I would sell it to no one Jim. :o)
Parts are always available but these 4X4s never loose their high value, & beware they burn diesel, or petrol faster than a running tap. ;o)

What a classic Phlossie. I enjoyed all the information as well. I think neither one of our countries would have been the same without these cousins. I had a toy iron jeep when I was a lad and it was my most prized possession. Oh, to have it again for my second childhood. lol. Nice memories you stirred. Have a good weekend.

Nice one of this Classic on a Hill Phil. Hope the Emergency Brakes are on. Are were you drinking again ? Diesel just hit $4 a Gallon here for the first time ever. Hope it gets good gas mileage. Me, I'm going back to where I started, HITCHHIKING.

If you think US oil prices are high EJ read on

Petrol about £1.08 per litre = £4.91/$9.73 a UK gallon
Diesel about £1.17 per litre = £5.32/$10.53 a UK gallon

That's over twice the price !! Britain's always been an expensive place to live in. :o(

Great shot Phil, and very well composed. My step dad has just replaced the chassis on his '79 landie, and is now putting it all back together!

Looks like its parked on a hill. A bit of rust on the underbody, but still looks great after all these years.

I must admit that I do have a fetish for the classic Land Rovers. Such rugged versatile vehicles and (from my perspective) uniquely British.
