This shot was taken about over a month ago at the WWT, at the time there were four pairs of Coot parents kept busy feeding their young. This one will probably collect several seeds for its brood, however their natural diet is mainly vegetation, snails, & insect larvae !!

Trust me when I say these adults were run ragged, but what surprises me is their almost immaculate appearance. :o) This out of water shot clearly shows their enormous semi-webbed feet which makes them such strong swimmers, & powerful divers.

Have a good weekend ... Phlossie. :o)

Very beautiful shot with nice colors and detail! Her feet do indeed make her look like some sort of alien!

This is a beautiful shot, Phil, of a beautiful bird, but I can't get over the comedy feet.

I had this in the voting booth earlier and I thought it might be one of Jungle George's Photoshop jokes..amazing stuff that Mother Nature deals out.

I did give it a high score, nevertheless.

We all have to accommodate for what we have to deal with in whichever way is most suitable.

Hat's off to you for this one, Phlossie. Cookies are on the way. I'll fly them over myself and do a prize drop so they don't get so water/salt logged via over-the-pond delivery...sorry to say I had to feed my prize from you to the seagulls over here. They loved them!

Better than saltwater taffy, and not so hard on the beaks.

This is a brilliant capture of one of these Coots. I have not seen their feet before and it is amazing to see them. They almost look too big for their bodies! Great clarity, light and colour. Well done!

Excellent Phlossie. I have been called an "Old Coot" and now I know what I am. Glad to see I am well groomed. Great photo and information.

Grandsons team finished 5th. They played good.
