Excuse me have you bought a ticket madam no!

This outhouse fronts the ancient pier at Aust that runs / collapses! into the Severn Estuary, okay so it's a little neglected. ;o) No ferry passengers have filed past this toll booth / shop since the 7th of September 1966, the day b4 the Queen opened the First Severn Crossing.

There's been ferries crossing the Severn Estuary for centuries long b4 the incredibly long bridges could be built. This car ferry station terminated passengers at Bleachley avoiding a 60 mile detour via Gloucester, & it was essential to locals, & travellers alike. Tom Jones, & the Beatles were just a few of the famous celebrities which used this crossing. Bob Dylan even had a photo shoot here while touring the UK.

This subject / upload will be of particular interest to t&b Rob, & TYM you know who you are. :o)

I'm really in the mood for some music now, & want to link a favourite song ... garbage stupid girl ... huh how could you possibly know that !! so you're a mind reader too.

What a pity that something that was such an integral part of people's lives for so many years should have been left to rot and decay. Thanks for this image Phil. It has brought a topic to my mind that I'd never thought of really before. I'd never really thought about The Severn having ferries before the bridge.

The ferry was always very important to travellers, & locals alike, & bear in mind the river Severn water level was often too low to cross. Apparently the little old ferries often made for a scary trip, & in the early days there were often fatal incidents at sea which claimed many lifes over the centuries !!

Thanks for your comment Steve

Not exactly a tourist attraction, it has certain qualities about it. I just can't seem to put my finger on what they might be, though. LOL. Nice shot.

If it was still a ferry there would be a McDonalds, a BP self serve station and a pawn shop on this spot. Too bad that things have to go by the wayside. Lots of nice links by the way Phlossie. Good post.

Time tramples on. The grass seems determined to reclaim this tiny patch. Very fine, but sad, capture.

Ask your Congressmen and Senators why our existing wells aren't pumping more than 3 days a month? There a lot of unused capacity in existing wells.
