This Goose came extremely close to extinction !! & I was amazed to read the WWT Slimbridge saved it from the brink in 1950.

This charming, & pretty Goose will very happily share your packed lunch moving so close to you. :o) They're very endearing, & I've often wanted to take one home with me when leaving WWT Slimbridge.

You must check out the story on Wikipedia it's such a great local success story for me. :o) :o)

Please note they still remain very rare, & there's no certainty there'll comfortably re-establish themselves in Hawaii. Perhaps they could even end up successfully establishing themselves somewhere else like Olde Blighty. :o)

How do you know that's a Hawaiian goose? It's not wearing a lei or a hula skirt. LOL. I'll take your word for it, I guess. It's got the face of a baby goose, and the body of an adult. Which one is it? Very nice shot, Phil.

An amazing story similar to the whooping crane. With a gene pool so small, I only hope that we can maintain as healthy species. Great capture of this rare bird.

Ask your Congressmen and Senators why our existing wells aren't pumping more than 3 days a month? There a lot of unused capacity in existing wells.

What a depressing old story followed by such an uplifting story of conservation. I'd never heard of the Hawaiian Goose before, but I'm glad I have now. Great picture and great narrative, Phil.

I just hope this shot doesn't go done in the annals of history as the last one of an extinct breed. I keep seeing THIS IMAGE in my head.

Thanks for such a clear shot and for the link as well...nice job.

You'll see a raise in your next paycheck, Flossie!!

Nice colorations on this reflective bird and the water too. Interesting story about them.

This looks an interesting character. I like how its beak looks very small and neat. Also like the reflection in the water too. Well done!
