One of the more famous blunders in US history was delivered by one George Armstrong Custer. Enlarging this photo allows one to imagine what went on. Custer was at the top of the rise (about 20 feet behind where I took this photo) and decided his troops out-gunned and could easily take the Native Americans below. The Little Big Horn River flows along the tree line down below. Custer thought there were but a few hundred people down there, but camped in a way he couldn't see, there were thousands. He charged down the hill, found out the reality and fought his way back up the hill to where he was surrounded. The gravestones mark where he and his men fell. His marker is the one with the black on it. If you look along the walking path, you can see markers for other fallen troops. Surrounding the area and you cannot see, are markers where some of the Native Americans fell defending their land. Crow Agency, Montana, USA.
